Two interviews have been in the news recently from Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin where they independently discuss the new Stargate reboot.
Emmerich has pointed out that there could be elements of Stargate SG1 in his reboot. Devlin, on the other hand, has reaffirmed that the reboot is about THEIR original cinematic vision for Stargate. He commented that "For us, it’s not putting down what has been done. It’s to let us finish telling our story."
I believe that it's possible to be a fan of both the Emmerich/Devlin original, and the spinoffs. The original movie is something that I personally cherish, just as I cherish SG1 and the other shows. To me this is about getting more STARGATE. Does not have to pay homage to the shows. As long as the movie is done right I will be thrilled to get more Stargate.
I loved Stargate in 1994. I loved Stargate in 1997. And I love Stargate today.
