Stargate, and the stars of Stargate, just keep on reeling in the awards!

Last night were the Leo Awards in BC (thank you to Damian Kindler for tweeting that!!) and I found this wonderful news this morning.

Michael Shanks was honoured with the lead acting award for Stargate: Continuum, Stargate: Atlantis won Best TV Series (along with 8 other awards) for its 5th Season, and Stargate: Continuum won 3 awards in the film category.

Full details of the exact awards will be posted here later ... they had a late night and the website hasn't been updated yet

But I think the biggest honour of the night had to go to Brad Wright and Robert C Cooper for the 'Outstanding Achievement' award. A nice little tribute can be found here

And we mustn't forget the talents of our favourite actress (ok folks, mine - hehe) Amanda Tapping, who won an award for Sanctuary (along with her co-stars Ryan Robbins and Gabrielle Rose). Sanctuary also picked up an award for Best Make-Up. Anyone who has seen that will know that was well deserved.

Best Dramatic Series
Best direction in a Dramatic Series (Robert C. Cooper’s “Vegas”)
Best screenwriting in a Dramatic Series (Alan McCullough’s “The Queen”)
Best cinematography in a Dramatic Series (Michael Blundell for “Vegas”)
Best picture editing in a Dramatic Series (Mike Banas for “Vegas”)
Best overall sound in a Dramatic Series (Kelly Cole, Patrick Ramsay, Bill Mellow, Joe Watts, Hugo De Le Cerda and Kevin Belen for “Enemy At the Gate”)
Best sound editing in a Dramatic Series (Steve Smith, Matthew Wilson, Kirby Jinnah, Jay Cheetham and Jason Mauza for “Enemy At the Gate”)
Best costume design in a Dramatic Series (Valerie Halverson for “The Queen”)
Best visual effects in a Dramatic Series (Mark Savela, Shannon Gurney, Kodie MacKenzie, Viv Jim and Dan Weir for “First Contact”)

Stargate Continuum earned three awards in the feature film categories:

Best Lead Performance by a Male in a Feature Length Drama (Michael Shanks “Daniel Jackson”)
Best screenwriting in a Feature Length Drama (Brad Wright)
Best overall sound in a Feature Length Drama (Paul Sharpe, Iain Pattison and Graeme Hughes)

Stargate executive producers Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper also received the Outstanding Achievement Award for their work in the Stargate franchise over the past 12 years. Wright co-created Stargate SG-1 with Jonathan Glassner in 1997. Wright and Cooper then went on to co-create Atlantis and Stargate Universe. Wright previously worked on series such as The Outer Limits, Forever Knight and Neon Rider. Cooper began as a story editor on PSI Factor.

And finally, Amanda Tapping’s Sanctuary was honoured with four Leo Awards including:

Best make-up in a Dramatic Series (Todd Masters, Nicholas Podbrey, Sarah Pickersgill, Harlow MacFarlane for "Warriors")
Best Guest Performance for a Male (Ryan Robbins in “Edward”)
Best Guest Performance for a female (Gabrielle Rose in “Edward”)
Best Lead Performance by a Female in a Dramatic Series (Amanda Tapping in “Requiem”).

In a way it's a shame though that a show can take home so many awards at the Leos, and be be bypassed by the other award circuits.

It really is!

I know they've been awarded a few Saturn awards (thinks? :S) in their time, but none of the really big awards that get plastered all over the TV and newspapers.

Anyone would think we had something against Canada

I think the bias is against episodic based science fiction in general. Sci-Fi movies can do very well, but--at least in America--they just aren't very popular on TV.

There are exceptions of course, and also a percentage of the population which goes against this, but mainstream viewers seem to prefer Sci-Fi in small doses.
