I know that there are various claw mounts with different features, the one that came with my bro's UTG mp5 airsoft spring gun came with a side weaver rail as well as a top weaver rail. The claw mount was an older version. The newer versions have picatinny rails.

Modifying the Ar15 scope

For starters, the locking nut that fastens on to the base screw of the Ar15 scope had to go, then I unfastend the 4 phillips heads that held the AR15 scope onto it's base.

I had to get the base screw out, it was locked by a tiny slotted head screw, I had to take out this base screw b/c it was way too big to fit into the weaver screw hole on the Mp5 claw mount. After unfasteneing the slotted head screw I could then take out the much larger base screw, which instead of having a head it was attached to a small block. I stored this base screw away in a baggie as I would not need it, however I kept the slotted head screw as it is easy to lose.

Modifying the H&K claw mount

2 philips head screws held each rail in place on the Mp5 claw mount. So I took one screw out from the top rail and sanded down the outer edges of the screw head so it would be small enough to fit at the base of my AR15 scope(the phillips head was to big and could not fit between the walls of the base). This phillips head screw would be used to replace the discarded base screw that came attached to the scope base.

Putting it all together

Well, after a lot of sanding, I finally stuck the modified phillips screw into the scope base, fit it into the hole, and made sure I could turn it 360 w/o the head getting stuck between the base walls. I have just modified the phillips head screw to fit into the AR15 scope base and therefore attach the base to the Mp5 claw mount w/o any modification to the claw mount itself(drilling holes, etc)

After this I fastened the scope base onto the top weaver rail by tightening the modified phillips screw as best as I could, the result: No free movement of the base, the base was locked. It is important to have the scope detached from the base until you are finished with mounting and securing the base to the claw mount top rail. So the last step would be to place the scope onto it's base and tighten the 4 screws that hold the scope onto the base. Im not sure how the prop team did it, but I think my method works pretty good, even though detaching the scope would be a hassle :?

When I get the chance I'll post some pics which should clear up any confusion

Awesome tutorial Daj!

I've been working on a similar tutorial for the HK style claw mount, but I really like yours because the UTG scope mount you used is much more common.

I'm going to add a link to your tutorial to the homepage of sg1props.com :D
