I've gotten the last of the silicone rubber I'll need for the finger caps and rings. Hopefully I'll have time in the next couple of days to get the remaining molds made.

Definitely getting there now! 8)

Ohhh, sweet... I hope it isn't like super expensive, cause I'd totally get one!

I've always wanted a kara'kesh lol. I actually registered just to comment on this. :)

But, since I'm here... I guess I could mention, I hope you don't forget the crystal technology they use to control the other various functions of the kara'kesh. Looks kinda like a transparent pink sugar cube that goes in the lil clippy thing on top of the hand. Or well, maybe sugar cube is a bad description, it's probably like pink quartz or something. But yeah, here's some pics of that:

Oh and is the end version going to light up like the real props they used? Here's a link to one of the originals (I think): http://www.yourprops.com/view_item.php?movie_prop=26419

Hi Qetesh, and thanks for joining!! I do hope you stick around and contribute too ... always good to have a Goa'uld on your side ;)

If you look closely at the 'sculpt' pictures, I believe you can just see the top crystal is in there (I admit, it is a strange shaped piece). SG Merc has meticulously been sourcing photos for this piece for YEARS (no exaggeration there!) and I can assure you that it will be as screen accurate as physically possible. Our SG Merc doesn't do anything by halfs!!!

I do believe he intends the final piece to be lit up, but you'll have to double check with him on that :)

*EDIT*

Here's a link to the upper crystal ... there's actually two in this photo:

Thanks Carter - questions well answered :)

The finger caps and rings get molded this week! Also, test castings of everything else.

Lighting? You betcha! 8)

What about sizes? I think I remember reading that the originals came in different sizes and I know gloves are all sorts of different sizes.

And cool, I'm glad there'll be lighting. :)

They will be somewhat re-sizable to fit different sized hands. Since I am casting the main arm band in a flat piece, it will be able to be bent to fit the size of the owner's arm. The rings should also be downsizable as well. I will know more when the first castings are done, but I have been thinking of this issue a lot :)

Hey, just found this thread by chance doing a Google search for Stargate stuff... Nice work on the Ribbon device, looks like it's coming along nicely! If you want close up pictures of that crystal (or measurements), let me know. I have access to a screen-used one... I'm not sure if all the crystals are the same size, but I'd guess they probably are...

Any rough idea what you might be charging for these once finished?

Looking forward to seeing it finished!

Rik

I have sent you a message Rik, and thank you deeply for offering your help :)

Colonel_Carter posted a progress photo to the SG1Props Facebook group just the other day. And just now I have gotten some up into the Library here at SG1Props. http://www.sg1props.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=35

These are just the first test castings, and I promise to get some brighter photos this week.

New photos of some castings. http://www.sg1props.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=35

I need to make new molds of some of the rings, and unfortunately my sculpts were damaged. I should have those going in the next couple of days though. Also, I will be testing making casts of the center crystal in my pressure chamber, and also finding some nice gold, silver, and copper paints to make the different variants.

It looks nice, but I do have some critiques if you don't mind! I'm sure you already know this stuff, but I figured I'd point it out just in case...

The shape of it looks good, but it's the wrong color. It should actually be a dark amber color, much like the color that it lights up to (sort've an orange). I've dug up some reference shots for you:

http://i49.tinypic.com/2w4acs5.jpg

http://i50.tinypic.com/20hr4eu.jpg
http://i48.tinypic.com/23k3pmw.jpg

You might also want to add another LED or two or perhaps have the palm crystal a bit more hollowed out, to get the very obvious center piece glow that the screen version seems to have. It seems so bright (see the last picture) that it may even be all of the above?

Also, while I'm looking at it, I wanted to comment on it before I forget... The thumb loop you're using seems a bit too large right now, both length and width. And you might want to make the fingertips smaller. They look very big on your hands but very small in the screen photos (see the last shot again).

If I could just point out - the finger caps look huge in the photos because they are on MY hands (not SG Merc's) and I have the smallest hands ever (I know children with bigger hands - LOL). They were sculpted on SG Merc and look just right on his average size hands.

This also accounts for the thumb strap looking huge as well.

SG Merc, we need to get some photos of it modelled on your hand I think.
