MGM Hires Christopher Judge For Stargate Project

Sep 16, 2017

During the Don S. Davis Charity Auction at this year’s Dragon Con, Christopher Judge let out the big news that he has been hired by MGM for a new Stargate Project! Before you get too excited thinking that the actor will be reprising his role as Teal’c, the new project that Judge will be involved with is completely non-fiction.

Judge will be hosting a show on the new Stargate Command website in which he will discuss the Stargate franchise and interview many of the people responsible for creating the show(s). The new program hosted by Judge coincides with statements from MGM that they would be filming 20th anniversary interviews with the actors and creators of Stargate SG-1 for the new website. Until MGM makes an official announcement, we don’t know if other cast members will be involved with creating interviews.

It is not yet clear if these videos will be available free through the website, or require purchasing the All-Access membership of Stargate Command. Either way, these interviews will surely ignite the imagination of Stargate fans around the world.

Dean Devlin Asked About Stargate at NYCC

Oct 7, 2017

At New York Comic Con SyFy Wire interviewed producer/director Dean Devlin to discuss his current and future projects. As we pointed out in another article, the planned Stargate movie reboot is no longer going to happen, or at least that was what his comments at the time insinuated. Devlin confirmed that with one single quote when asked about his earlier plans to reboot the Stargate franchise with a new trilogy of films:

“I’m actually not involved with the reboot of Stargate at all. So MGM is doing that; I wish them well.”

Afterward he went on to discuss his ironic coming-together with SG-1 creator Jonathan Glassner on the new project The Outpost. The new show will begin filming soon, and is not related to Stargate at all, despite both Devlin and Glassner’s connections to the franchise.

Watch the entire interview on SyFy Wire.

Original Stargate Movie Props Up For Auction

Feb 18, 2019

Fans of the original Stargate movie are in for a treat as several original movie props are being auctioned off right now. The items were recently released by the production company which has held them in storage for the last 25 years.

While props and costumes from the Stargate TV series are common, items from the original Stargate movie are more rare. The small size of this auction is a testament to that fact. The auction features just 14 items, which is further split between props from the movie and pieces from a run of licensed replicas produced around the same time the movie was released.

Longtime fans of the Stargate franchise might remember the costume masks made by Distortions Unlimited, and sold in catalogs during the early 1990s. Some of these masks are included in this auction, and were not used in the movie.

All of the items, including the movie props and the collectible merchandise, are in need of restoration. Professional restoration of foam and latex props is a specialty and can be very expensive.

These items are being sold by VIP Fan Auctions, best known to Stargate fans for having auctioned off the props and costumes from Stargate Universe (along with some SG1 and Atlantis items). VIP Fan Auctions runs weekly auctions props and costumes from movies and TV shows.

Sci-fi Classic Dune Is Getting Rebooted With A Stargate Atlantis Connection

Feb 19, 2019

The classic science fiction book Dune is getting its second movie adaption, and a well known Stargate Atlantis actor might be getting a starring role! According to media outlets, Stargate actor Jason Momoa is in talks to receive a leading role in the film.

Momoa would be playing the role of Duncan Idaho, a swardmaster originally played by Richard Jordan in the 1984 movie adaption. The character is beloved by the Dune fan base, and would grant Momoa another well-known role following his portrail of Conan The Barbarian and Aquaman.

Whether or not Momoa will get the role is yet to be seen, but we have a feeling that we’ll be seeing him on planet Arrakis in 2020!

MGM Relaunches Stargate Command Website

Jun 6, 2019

MGM gave Stargate fans a special treat by relaunching their Stargate Command experience. The new website completely replaces their old Stargate Command site, which launched two years ago. While the old interface used a social wall type interface, the new site has been organized into interactive sections.

Fans can engage with the Stargate Command team and fellow users by joining Factions, and then supporting their faction by gaining points. All of this might sound similar to another site operated many years ago by Showtime, but this is different in some major ways!

  1. The new Stargate Command is built on real stories and facts from the franchise. You can take quizzes and polls, and even relive story arcs by taking in Features.
  2. Nearly every corner of the site encourages fans to engage in discussions with each other. Just like the social media sites you already use, Stargate Command lets you chat with friends about all things Stargate!
  3. Access to the best Stargate content. It’s not all games at Stargate Command! Read Stargate novels, comic books, and watch all of the episodes through the platform.

There is even a store with original Stargate merchandise! You need to explore the site on your own. Embrace this, fellow fans, because getting involved is how we show MGM that we care about Stargate.

Actor Obi Ndefo Returns To Teaching Yoga After Double Amputation

Dec 30, 2019

Obi Ndefo, best known for his role on Stargate SG-1 as the Jaffa Rak’nor has returned to teaching yoga after losing both of his legs in a motor vehicle accident. The actor suffered the injury last August when he was stuck by a drunk driver while loading groceries into his car.

While the actor could have grown bitter because of his injury, he chose to remain positive and continue to life his life, saying “This is just so horrendous what happened to me, why would I compound this by feeling bad about it?” He holds no ill feelings towards the 25 year old who stuck him, and fled the scene (whom police apprehended the following day).

It is our hope at Stargate Legacy that stories like this can teach all of us two things:

  1. No matter how bad things get, you will get through it.
  2. Be responsible and treat all life (including your own) as the fragile gift that it is.
